Dollie is my grand mother on my dads side of the family. She passed away when on August 6, 1985. I was about 10 years old. She was 60 an would have been 98 yesterday November 1

As we were commenting back and forth, I got to thinking I didn’t remember much about her. What I did remember was she dipped tobacco and always had a cup nearby to spit in.

Another thing I remember is her sitting on a front porch in Talladega, AL somewhere. I think maybe uncle scooter and aunt sue were beside her.

Is it strange that that’s the only thing I remember about her? Probably. Since mom and dad divorced when I was 5. That is probably a reason I don’t

I know I do. It’s like stepping into a new world or something. You just can’t get over that lump in your throat when someone speaks your name.

This year is definitely going to be an exciting year. With a new bus, new students and parents, it’ll be challenging. Nevertheless, exciting!

Missing you today mom. Friday will be 12 years you were taken from us.
It’s been hard at times, somehow we make it another day. But not one goes by where I don’t think of you. I love and miss you

Only 8 days left for Alabama to kick off.

Dad and I, we weren’t the closest, but somehow we managed to have some communication.  He always pressed for information about my life.  I would always avoid the answers with short and sweet words.

No matter what went on, he was and is my dad.

To me, it doesn’t really matter how much snow I get, I love to watch it fall from the sky. I love to see it gather on the grass, outline the trees. To me, it’s just pretty. It’s not like the rain. Rain just makes me want to sleep. Snow brings out the child in me. =)
On the note of weather, There’s going to be two severe weather classes in Rutherford County. The first on is going to be at Fire Hall #3 on Bill Stewart Blvd on Feb 3 at 630pm. the second one is going to be at the EMA office in Murfreesboro on Feb 10. Here’s a link for more information

Stay safe, drive smart!

The day after generally consists of getting up early as if it were Black Friday and going shopping.  This year was no different.  Well with one exception, I was the only one going shopping.

I needed a new Christmast tree and I’ve had my eye on over at the behemith store, Walmart.  It wasn’t extravagant or anything, just a pre-lit 6.5 foot colorada pine.  It was normally $38, but in this economy, if you can save some money you probably should.

So I got up at the crack of dawn to get there when they open, expecting a huge line.  I was a little disappointed.  I guess the weather had deterred some folks, but not me.  I walked in heading for my tree.  Guess what?  I got it and about $43 worth of clearance stuff too!

I like saving money. =)

Well the day wasn’t really about me going shopping for my tree.  It was about what we did about 930 am.  We packed the car with the nieces and nephew and cousin and aunt and headed south for Alabama.

Now if you ever had to travel with family in the same vehicle, you know it can be a challenge at times.  Today was no different.  We hit McDonalds, we gassed the car up and dispite the snow and ice on the interstate, we drove.  What happened in the car?  We laughed, we he hawed, they slept, I drove.

The best time we had was in the car.  I love my family regardless of all the ups and downs.  I’m so glad we have each other.

Getting things together for christmas, traveling, visiting with family, it’s all the best time the day after.

One, don’t yell at me when I’m late.  Don’t stand there with your child and ask why I wasn’t there at 7:50 a.m. to get your child out of 55 degree weather.

When you ask me why I’m late, you better be prepared for the response.

You should be aware of the news and know what’s going on outside your little world.

I say these things because I’m not going to be nice when I know I’m late, when I know what the temperature is outside.  When I’ve already sat in traffic for 10 minutes because some idiot doesn’t know how to drive and causes all the roads to back up.

Dear parent, if you are so concerned with me being on time, or the weather, then take you child to school.  It’s only a 5 minute walk from your house!  You could have been back home by the time I picked that kid up this morning!

Theme parks are one of a few cheap getaways for me. Last night I received an email concerning one of my favorite parks, Kentucky Kingdom.  The email read that the park would be closing because Six Flags and the Kentucky State Fair couldn’t come to an  agreement regarding the lease.

I’m really upset about it.  I mean, Kentucky Kingdom is only 2 1/2 hours away vs the drive to Atlanta, GA.  Seems as thought that’s where I’ll need to go now.  Not to mention that the season pass at Kentucky Kingdom was always cheaper than the Atlanta based theme park.

Although this last year, I did buy tickets and never went.  It was always one of my options.  Now, I guess i’ll be traveling to Atlanta more often. Kentucky Kingdom will be missed.
